Audi Restructures China Operations as AUDI and Four-Ring Brands Split Between SAIC and FAW

Source: Date:

Introduction: Audi is redefining its strategy in China by separating its two major joint ventures under different brand identities and product missions, signaling a sharper focus on localization and market responsiveness.

Audi has announced a significant overhaul of its Chinese operations, reshaping how its vehicles will be branded and produced through its partnerships with SAIC and FAW. Under the new structure, the Audi-SAIC joint venture will be responsible for vehicles wearing the all-caps AUDI logo, while the Audi-FAW partnership will continue with the traditional four-ring brand identity.

The restructuring also establishes different powertrain strategies for each venture. Audi-FAW will offer a combination of electric vehicles and internal-combustion models, while Audi-SAIC will focus exclusively on electric vehicle production.

Audi said current after-sales service and customer support will remain unchanged, though it has not yet detailed how sales will be managed once the transition period ends.

On the SAIC side, the AUDI lineup already includes models such as the E5 Sportback and the E7X SUV, with additional vehicles based on the Advanced Digitized Platform 2.0 expected by 2028. The FAW partnership is expected to expand with models such as the A6L e-tron, Q6L e-tron, A5L, and A6L.

Audi says the dual-brand, dual-partner strategy is designed to create clearer positioning, improve decision-making speed, and strengthen its response to China’s fast-changing automotive landscape.
