In a monumental shift for its smartphone lineup, Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking its entry into the foldable smartphone market. The iPhone Duo comes packed with cutting-edge technology and design, setting new standards for mobile devices.

The device boasts two screens with matching aspect ratios, including a primary 7.6" foldable display and a 5.4" cover display, both equipped with under-display selfie camera technology. A premium titanium hinge, integrated with a magnetic array, assures a satisfying snap when closing the device. Touch ID is seamlessly integrated into the side button, and users can also unlock the iPhone Duo via their Apple Watch.

Protection is paramount, as indicated by the Ceramic Shield on the back and the upgraded Ceramic Shield 2 on the front display. The iPhone Duo is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. A unique "custom nano-texture finish" helps to minimize crease visibility while enhancing the overall aesthetic. The folding screen is further fortified with a scratch-resistant coating, placed atop a sturdy titanium substrate.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on the powerful A20 Pro chip, a cutting-edge SoC utilizing a 2nm manufacturing process. It features a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and a dual 16-core NPU, providing a significant boost in performance over its predecessor, the A19 Pro. The new chip offers up to 20% faster CPU speeds, 40% faster GPU performance, and enhanced Neural Engine capabilities.

The iPhone Duo is equipped with Apple’s C2 modem for mmWave 5G connectivity within the US. Additionally, it supports Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7, making it eSIM-only globally. Apple claims impressive battery life with up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen, extending to 44 hours for the outer display. Fast charging capabilities allow users to gain 50% battery in just 20 minutes with a wired charger and 30 minutes for wireless with MagSafe or Qi2.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the triple-camera system on the iPhone Duo, featuring a 48MP main sensor with an "optical-quality" 2x telephoto capability, a 48MP ultrawide camera ideal for macro shots, and a 12MP Center Stage front camera sourced from the iPhone 18 Pro series. The under-display selfie camera on the inner screen's hardware details remain undisclosed.

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone Duo has a specially tailored user interface that adapts to the phone's orientation and folding position. Features like customizable lock screen controls, restructured home screen layouts, and a redesigned status bar enhance user experience. The new layout allows users to run two apps simultaneously in Split View on the inner display and save frequently used app pairs for quick access.

The iPhone Duo will be available in two sleek color options: Star White and Night Sky. Pricing begins at $1,999 for the 256GB model, escalating to $3,199 for the 2TB configuration. The pre-order date is set for October 16, with an official release on October 23. Additionally, Apple plans to support the Apple Pencil for the iPhone Duo later this year.
