Mitsubishi has taken a step forward in the electric vehicle market by releasing the charging specifications for its highly anticipated Eclipse Sportback EV. Originally showcased in early June, this new model not only carries the familiar Eclipse name but is also closely related to the new Nissan Leaf, sharing a foundation but with distinct design elements unique to Mitsubishi.
The Eclipse Sportback EV will feature a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, granting drivers access to the extensive Tesla Supercharger network. This allows for quick charging capabilities, enabling the vehicle to charge from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes at a maximum of 150 kW DC. Additionally, the vehicle includes a J1772 plug for Level 1 and Level 2 charging, ideal for home use.
Interestingly, the specified charging abilities align perfectly with those of the new Nissan Leaf. This similarity is due to the Eclipse Sportback EV being fundamentally a Nissan Leaf at its core, enhanced with "unique front and rear fascias that reflect features from other Mitsubishi vehicles," including distinct lighting arrangements and appealing alloy wheels, along with the brand's signature Triple Diamond emblem, according to Mitsubishi's official announcement.
Beyond these design tweaks, all other aspects of the Eclipse Sportback EV mirror those of the Leaf. Mitsubishi is expected to release more details about the vehicle soon, and enthusiasts are eager to learn more about what sets this new offering apart.
