In the second quarter of this year, Apple emerged as the standout performer in the computer market. The company is the only one that gained market share compared to the same period last year, with shipments increasing by 10.1%, according to a recent IDC report.

Apple shipped 6.7 million Macs in Q2, capturing a 9.9% market share, a rise from 6.1 million units and 8.5% market share in Q2 2025. Windows PC manufacturers, however, suffered significant setbacks attributed to price increases driven by the RAM crisis.

Lenovo maintained its position as market leader, although its shipments fell to 16.6 million units from 17 million in the previous year, resulting in a 24.4% market share. HP followed in second place, shipping 13 million units, a decline from 14.3 million last year, and holds a 19.1% market share, down from 19.9% in Q2 2025.

In third place, Dell shipped 9.3 million devices, down from 9.8 million the previous year. Apple ranked fourth, followed by Asus, which shipped 5 million units. Despite a negligible 0.2% growth compared to Q2 2025, Asus increased its market share from 7% to 7.4% as the overall market declined.

The overall PC market comprised 68.2 million units in Q2, a 4.9% decrease from 71.7 million units in the same quarter last year. As RAM and SSD prices continue to rise, this trend is expected to persist. IDC anticipates a significant slowdown in growth rates in the second half of 2026 and warns that vendors are preparing for further price increases into 2027.

Apple's success can largely be attributed to its timing of price hikes at the end of June, coinciding with the conclusion of Q2, and the strong performance of the MacBook Neo. The impact of these price adjustments on Mac demand will become evident in Q3 figures.
