During its developer conference in China today, Huawei officially introduced HarmonyOS 7. This new operating system features a visually captivating user interface, inspired by Apple’s Liquid Glass concept, and emphasizes advancements in artificial intelligence, reflecting the ongoing trend in tech.

HarmonyOS 7 will be available on a wide range of Huawei devices, including smartphones, tablets, computers, wearables, and IoT devices. It can transform any scene into a three-dimensional effect, with the most notable application appearing on the lock screen.

UI components like sliders and buttons now boast a more glass-like texture. Additionally, Huawei has integrated a new form of “agentic AI” into its virtual assistant, enabling it to handle a wider array of in-app commands and fulfill user requests more effectively than conventional AI assistants.

The update also brings new AI-driven photo editing features. Huawei highlights that its revamped HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0 provides “intent as a service,” boasting a task execution rate exceeding 90%. While this figure may seem low, it could be considered impressive within the context of “agentic AI.”

Moreover, HarmonyOS 7 promises a 15% increase in performance compared to its predecessor, HarmonyOS 6.1. Although the specifics of this metric remain unclear, users can expect enhanced speed and smoothness, particularly in app launching and gaming experiences.

The developer beta for HarmonyOS 7 is now available for eligible smartphones, with the official update scheduled for release this fall. Unsurprisingly, Huawei's announcement and rollout strategy appears to draw significant inspiration from Apple.
