The Tecno Pova 8 introduces the Alive Matrix Display, a small dot-matrix screen integrated into the camera island. Despite appearances, the device features only one actual camera, enhancing its aesthetic appeal without compromising functionality.
As an upgrade from the Pova 7, the new Tecno Pova 8 boasts a significant increase in battery capacity, now at 8,000mAh, compared to its predecessor's 6,000mAh. TÜV SÜD tested the device and confirmed a remarkable two-day battery life on a single charge. Moreover, this battery is rated for over 2,000 cycles, maintaining at least 80% of its original capacity for up to six years of usage.

Additionally, the Pova 8 supports 45W fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 1% to 50% in just 35 minutes. There is also an option for 10W reverse charging, although the previous model's 30W wireless charging feature has been discontinued.
However, there are trade-offs. The Pova 8 is powered by the Dimensity 7100 chipset. Announced in January, this processor uses an older semiconductor node of TSMC 6nm, as opposed to the 4nm Dimensity 7300 found in the previous model.

The Dimensity 7100 features a 15,000mm² graphite sheet for effective heat dissipation. It is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and offers 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Tecno claims the device is optimized for stable 90fps gameplay on popular titles like Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

The rear of the phone features a triangular camera island that appears to house three lenses. However, only one is a functional camera: a 50MP Sony Lytia 600 sensor with 2x in-sensor zoom and autofocus. The other two 'lenses' comprise the Alive Matrix Display and a 13MP selfie camera.

The device is equipped with a 6.76" IPS LCD, showcasing a refresh rate of 144Hz and a 1080p+ resolution. The display incorporates a 240Hz touch sampling rate and Wet & Oily Finger Touch Recognition 2.0. The phone runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16 out of the box.
