Unlike its competitors, Apple is opting to design its smart glasses frames independently, rather than partnering with fashion brands. Current prototypes boast four distinct styles: a classic Wayfarer, a sleek rectangular design akin to Tim Cook's eyewear, plus larger and smaller refined oval shapes. Constructed from high-quality acetate, known for its durability compared to traditional plastics, the glasses will offer color options including black, ocean blue, and light brown.

Apple's approach reflects a broader strategy to enhance wearable technology with AI capabilities. Originally, Apple’s roadmap anticipated an AR headset by 2020 and true AR glasses by 2022; however, only the Vision Pro has made it to market, albeit with delays. Now, the company is pivoting to a more consumer-friendly product that could integrate seamlessly with its iOS ecosystem.

The success of Apple’s smart glasses will largely depend on the performance of Siri. A contextually aware and efficient Siri in the upcoming iOS 27 has the potential to differentiate Apple’s offering from competitors like Meta. If Siri can keep up with user demands, it could revolutionize how we interact with our devices. However, if the virtual assistant falls short, even the most stylish acetate frames might not sway potential customers.

While I have yet to fully embrace the trend of smart glasses from any brand, I remain curious about how Apple will embed these new glasses into its existing technology. The depth of integration with iOS could position them as must-have accessories, enhancing daily life in ways we are yet to imagine.
