Many Pixel 6 Pro users, including myself, have embraced the advanced capabilities of the Gemini chatbot as our preferred digital assistant. Despite occasional miscommunication, Gemini delivers comprehensive answers that enrich our interaction with technology.
The Shift from Google Assistant to Gemini
As part of a significant transition, Google is retiring Google Assistant, expecting that by mid-year, all new Android devices will solely feature Gemini for user assistance. Notably, even when Gemini is your active assistant, using the “Hey Google” command still activates the AI chatbot interface, allowing voice prompts.
For users of Android and Pixel devices who have switched from Google Assistant to Gemini, an unusual issue may arise when attempting to set alarms or timers using the chatbot’s features. It's not uncommon to suspect that your request has gone unfulfilled.
Misleading Messages from Gemini on Alarm and Timer Set-up
When you use Gemini to set an alarm or timer, you may encounter a frustrating notification displayed as a red circle with a white “X” and the message: “Action failed.” Additionally, the alert states, “I wasn’t able to complete the action. You can try completing the action(s) in the Clock app.”
The perplexing part is that, regardless of this error message, when you check the Clock app, it confirms that your alarm or timer has been successfully set, leaving many Pixel and Android users understandably confused.
Addressing the Confusion: Simple Steps to Resolve the Issue
This incongruity is a known bug arising from the timing out of the Gemini interface while waiting for a response from the Clock app. Although the message indicates failure, the command typically does go through, which is why the alarm or timer appears in the Clock app.
To help minimize this confusion, users can follow these steps:
- Launch the Gemini app.
- Select your Profile Picture located in the upper right corner.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Locate Gemini Apps Activity and ensure it is toggled on.
