Ford Unveils Upgraded Electric Explorer: Enhanced Range and Intelligent Technology

The European electric vehicle market is highly competitive, necessitating continuous advancements. Ford has introduced several updates for its electric Explorer, a crossover specifically designed for European consumers. This new iteration addresses previous criticisms by incorporating improvements in battery technology, power output, and intelligent features.

One of the most significant updates involves the Explorer’s Standard Range model, which now features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Known for its durability and cost-effectiveness, this new battery is paired with an upgraded electric motor that produces 188 horsepower (140 kW) and 350 Nm of torque.

Performance metrics indicate a clear enhancement compared to its predecessor. With an additional 20 horsepower (15 kW) and 30 Nm of torque, the electric Explorer can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in precisely 8.0 seconds, nearly a second quicker than the previous model. Additionally, the optimized powertrain enables a range of up to 444 km on a full charge, based on WLTP testing—an increase of 60 km compared to the earlier version.

Ford has also prioritized safety and ease of driving in urban environments. The Explorer now features an Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control system equipped with Traffic Light Recognition. This advanced technology detects red and yellow traffic signals ahead, automatically slowing down or coming to a complete stop when necessary. For those uneasy with narrow spaces, a new Reversing Assist feature can remember the last 50 meters driven forward, allowing it to steer the vehicle back out of tight spots.

Parking is further simplified with the innovative Trained Park Assist. Owners can teach the vehicle a specific parking route of up to 50 meters. Once learned, the car autonomously parks itself, managing steering, acceleration, and braking. Inside, a spacious 14.6-inch touchscreen operates on a new Android-based system that facilitates smoother navigation and enhanced readability while driving. Additionally, the car introduces a one-pedal driving mode, allowing the driver to decelerate by simply lifting off the accelerator pedal.

Safety features receive a substantial upgrade with the introduction of the Driver State Assist system, which monitors the driver's attention. If the system detects inactivity, the vehicle can take measures such as activating hazard lights, bringing the car to a safe stop, unlocking the doors, and calling for assistance.

The updated electric Explorer can also function as a mobile power station. The Pro Power Onboard feature provides power outlets in the trunk, with an optional adapter that connects to the vehicle's external charging port. These outlets deliver 2.3 kW of electricity—sufficient to operate laptops, power campsite lights, or run tools in areas lacking wall outlets.

For those desiring a more distinctive appearance, Ford has launched a special edition named the Explorer Collection. This model features a unique Cactus Grey exterior and is fitted with 20-inch Satin Black wheels. Additional aesthetic enhancements include a black roof, black skid plates, and black graphics on the body. Inside, the Black Onyx interior is accented with bright orange details on the seats and dashboard, while the seating materials use a special "2D knit" fabric reminiscent of premium sports apparel, imparting a modern, sporty ambiance.

The new Explorer is now available for order, with prices starting at €41,375 for the base model in the UK. The top-tier AWD model featuring the largest battery begins at €58,612, not including any regional incentives.
