Price Cuts on Pixel 10, 9a, and Poco F8 Pro: What You Need to Know

Source: Date:

The Google Pixel 10a was announced earlier this week. Will it disrupt the European mid-range market or is it entering a battle it can't win? The biggest challenge may come from its own sibling, the Pixel 9a.

The Google Pixel 10a shares many features with the 9a, including a 6.3” 1080p+ display (now slightly brighter and protected by Gorilla Glass 7i), the same Tensor G4 chipset, and a 48+13MP camera. The battery capacity remains at 5,100mAh, but Google has increased the wired charging speed from 23W to 30W, and wireless charging from 7.5W to 10W.

One of the most significant upgrades over the 9a is the introduction of Satellite SOS support, though this feature is limited to specific regions (see the full list). Pixelsnap is not supported.

Here’s the deal: after purchasing a Pixel 10a, you'll receive an email with €100 in store credit once it ships. This credit can be used to buy various accessories; for the complete list, click here. Among the notable offers, you can pay an additional €30 for the Google Pixel Buds 2a, which feature ANC and spatial audio. There’s also an official silicone case for the Pixel 10a (note: no magnets), bundled with a capable Google 67W charger featuring two USB-C ports (the one with AVS).

Just last week, the 256GB Pixel 10 cost €800, but it is now available for €700, with the 128GB variant priced at €600. The Pixel 10 is equipped with the newer Tensor G5 chip (featuring 4GB more RAM than the 10a), Satellite SOS, and a dedicated telephoto camera (10.8MP 5x). Although it's priced higher, especially when factoring in the €100 store credit for the Pixel 10a, the Pixel 10 is a superior device overall.

The Pixel 9a is still available at €370 for the base 128GB model. Evaluating whether the additional €80 is justified for essentially the same phone may be prudent.

The Poco F8 Pro is now available for €500, featuring 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, last year’s flagship chipset—which notably outperforms the Tensor G4—it offers a larger 6,210mAh battery with 100W wired-only charging.

Its camera hardware surpasses that of the Pixel 10a, including a 50MP main sensor with a larger 1/1.55” sensor (versus 1/2.0”), a dedicated 50MP telephoto module with 2.5x/60mm zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The Poco F8 Pro has a larger 6.59” display (12-bit, Dolby Vision), but you do need to be comfortable using Xiaomi’s HyperOS.

The Poco X8 Pro will be officially launched soon, but the outgoing Poco X7 Pro currently offers significant discounts and is worth considering. It features a Dimensity 8400 Ultra processor, a 6.67” display (12-bit, Dolby Vision), and a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired-only charging. While it has a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, the camera performance is relatively unimpressive.

The Motorola Edge 70 has dropped by €50 since two weeks ago, though it hasn’t yet returned to its lowest price of €525. This model could be a better option than the Pixel 10a if you prefer a larger device (6.7” display). While it is taller and wider, it maintains a slim profile at just 6mm thick and weighs only 159g (compared to the Pixel's 9mm thickness and 183g weight). The Edge 70 comes with a decent 4,800mAh battery, 68W wired, and 15W wireless charging.

It is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and features three 50MP cameras, including one with a 1/1.56” main sensor, a 120° ultra-wide lens, and a front-facing camera.

Prices for both the Redmi Note 15 Pro and Redmi Note 15 Pro+ have decreased by a few euros compared to two weeks ago. Both phones share a 6.83” display (12-bit, Dolby Vision) and the same camera configuration—a 200MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The Pro model is driven by the Dimensity 7400 Ultra with a 6,580mAh battery (supporting 45W charging), while the Pro+ model features the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and a 6,500mAh battery with faster 100W charging capabilities.

In addition, the Motorola Moto G77 and Moto G67 have launched this week. The G77 features a noteworthy 108MP camera but lacks the competitive edge against the two Redmi models mentioned above, particularly when considering its Dimensity 6400 chipset and a 5,200mAh battery with 30W charging.
