Apple's Ambitious Health+ AI Coach Faces Setbacks
Apple is making significant changes to its Health app, under the leadership of Services chief Eddy Cue, who is now overseeing the Apple Health initiative. A recent report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple is shifting its focus from grand, ambitious upgrades to delivering frequent, smaller updates to its user base.

Initially, the Health+ service was expected to leverage generative AI, allowing users to engage with their health data and access expert videos on specific health topics. Reports indicated that Apple heavily invested in Health+, even recording professional videos at a California studio intended for user recommendations alongside surveys and health assessments.

The Future of Health+ Remains Uncertain
Rumors pointed to the possibility of launching Health+ with iOS 26, featuring a sleek new design and a host of innovations. However, the internal delays surrounding the service mean we didn’t see any announcements, leaving its future unclear. The report does not clarify whether Apple managed to address regulatory issues with the FDA related to Health+.
Health+ was set to utilize Apple Intelligence capabilities, but delays in generative AI development likely contributed to Apple's choice to pivot towards a more cautious approach. Although testing of a chatbot with Health+ features reportedly took place, there have been no formal disclosures regarding their implementation.
It's anticipated that further updates could be unveiled during WWDC 2026, but for now, the fate of Apple Health+ hangs in the balance.
Personal Reflections on AI and Healthcare
Personally, I have reservations about sharing sensitive health information with generative AI. The thought of discussing personal health metrics with an AI chatbot, even on a privacy-centric platform like the iPhone, raises significant concerns for me. Consequently, I find myself somewhat relieved by the delays and shifts in direction regarding the Health+ initiative.
