During the earnings call held after Tesla's financial report on Wednesday, CEO Elon Musk made a significant announcement, stating that the time has come to retire the Model S and Model X. While this may not be a major shift—given that 97% of Tesla's sales come from the Model 3 and Model Y—the Model S remains one of Tesla's original offerings.

Tesla discontinues the Model S and Model X, shifting its focus to humanoid robots

In a surprising twist, Musk revealed plans to repurpose the production lines for the Model S and Model X at the Fremont factory to manufacture the Optimus humanoid robot. This robot is designed to serve as a versatile assistant capable of performing tasks ranging from factory work to household chores and even child care.

The ambitious goal is to ramp up production to 1 million Optimus robots annually, which Musk believes will increase employment at the Fremont facility.

It is worth noting that 2025 marked Tesla's first year with declining revenue. The shift towards robot production could be a strategy to maintain a competitive edge in the industry.

If you are considering a purchase of the Model S or Model X, now may be the perfect time to act. The Model S is priced starting at $95,000 in the US, while the Model X begins at $100,000. In Europe, prices range from approximately €110,000 to €115,000 for each model, respectively.
