Xiaomi Mijia Smart Audio Glasses: Elegant Design Meets Practical Features

Source: Date:

Smart glasses have gained popularity recently, and Xiaomi’s latest model, the Mijia Smart Audio Glasses, offers a premium design along with practical features, although it may not be the most advanced option available.

The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses feature built-in speakers integrated into the temples, providing an open earbud experience. These are complemented by quad microphones, enabling hands-free calls, as well as the ability to record both calls and ambient audio.

We tested the Titanium version, priced at €199. Xiaomi also offers browline and pilot styles, with the latter providing UV400 protection. The traditional lenses on our unit filter out 25% of incoming blue light, making them ideal for extended computer use.

The Titanium model is notably lightweight, weighing just over 34 grams, lenses included. This reduced weight is partly due to the 5mm slim plastic temples, which can be replaced with prescription lenses if needed. The glasses carry an IP54 rating, protecting against dust and splashes, making them resilient to light rain.

The touch sensors on the Mijia Smart Audio Glasses are well-spaced and user-friendly.

The Mijia Smart Glasses are comfortable for all-day wear, although they feel slightly heavier than standard prescription glasses. Xiaomi has incorporated large touch sensors at the midpoint of the temples, which are well-spaced and sensitive to taps.

The retail package includes a stylish faux leather pouch, a cleaning cloth, and a unique magnetic charger that connects to both temples and features a USB-C port for compatibility with any charger.

Mijia Smart Audio Glasses come with an appealing accessory package and an innovative charger.

Xiaomi claims a playback time of up to 13 hours from the speakers, with a full recharge taking approximately one hour.

The build quality is excellent, appealing to regular glasses wearers who also frequently use wireless earbuds or headphones. This two-in-one solution is refreshing; as someone who wears glasses for over eight hours daily, it was nice to avoid additional earphones or earbuds.

In terms of sound quality, while the built-in speakers do not deliver impressive performance or high volume, they are adequate for casual use and suitable for calls in quieter environments. They feature a privacy mode purported to minimize sound leakage, although its effectiveness at higher volumes remains unverified.

The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses use Bluetooth 5.4 for pairing with various devices and support dual device pairing, similar to most modern wireless earbuds. During our test, we experienced solid connectivity while using an iPhone 17 Pro and a MacBook Pro 14.

The glasses also include wear detection sensors that pause and resume media playback when you take them off or put them back on.

Xiaomi provides a dedicated Xiaomi Glasses app for controlling additional functionalities. The app is fairly basic and allows users to reassign gesture controls and manage connected devices and recordings.

Additionally, the glasses feature a built-in recording function activated by a long press on either temple. Users can record calls and audio played on the glasses, and the device can read incoming notifications aloud, provided the necessary permissions are granted to the app.

In conclusion, while the Mijia Smart Audio Glasses may not boast the most extensive feature set on the market, they deliver premium construction, satisfactory sound quality, and innovative features like audio and call recording. The inclusion of a camera could elevate future iterations, making it intriguing to see Xiaomi's next move in the competitive smart glasses market.
