Apple May Partner with Intel for Chip Manufacturing: What to Expect

Source: Date:

In early December, reports surfaced indicating that Apple is in discussions with Intel regarding chip manufacturing, aiming to diversify its suppliers and reduce reliance on TSMC.

Recently, GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu has reiterated this speculation in a new research note. Pu anticipates that Intel will begin producing Apple chips using its forthcoming 14A process, which is expected to enter mass production by 2028.

Apple once again rumored to partner with Intel for chip manufacturing

This partnership would mean that Intel will manufacture a portion of Apple’s A21 and A22 chips. However, TSMC is expected to continue as Apple’s primary chip supplier. Similar to TSMC, Intel will focus solely on fabrication and will not be involved in the design of the chips.

In addition to chips for the iPhone, Intel may also produce components for select Mac and iPad models, as predicted by Ming-Chi Kuo. He estimates that Intel could start making lower-end M series chips as early as mid-2027.
