OpenAI has expanded its low-cost ChatGPT Go subscription service, originally launched in India last August for INR 399/month, to 170 countries, including the United States. In the U.S., ChatGPT Go is priced at $8/month, while the ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscriptions are available for $20/month and $200/month, respectively. In conjunction with the global rollout of ChatGPT Go, OpenAI has announced plans to begin testing advertisements in the U.S. over the coming weeks. This will affect logged-in adults using the free and Go tiers of ChatGPT, while the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will remain free of ads.
OpenAI assures users that the responses generated by ChatGPT will remain unaffected by advertisements, which will be clearly labeled and distinct from organic responses. Additionally, users' conversations with ChatGPT will be kept private from advertisers.
Insights on ChatGPT Ads
OpenAI intends to introduce ads by displaying them at the end of ChatGPT responses when relevant sponsored products or services align with users' conversations with the AI chatbot. The following image illustrates potential ad formats during this testing phase.

Users may also encounter ads while being able to pose direct questions to facilitate their purchasing decisions.

OpenAI stated in a blog post, "We’ll learn from feedback and refine how ads show up over time, but our commitment to putting users first and maintaining trust won’t change. By starting our ad platform from the ground up with these principles in place, we can align our incentives with what people want from ChatGPT."
Furthermore, they added, "Our long-term focus remains on building products that millions of people and businesses find valuable enough to pay for. Our enterprise and subscription businesses are already strong, and we believe in having a diverse revenue model where ads can play a part in making intelligence more accessible to everyone."
