Google has quietly delivered one of the most useful iPhone Duo upgrades yet. The latest version of Google Maps, 26.44.4, now supports the device’s dual-display design in a much more complete way, moving beyond the awkward early layout and making far better use of both screens.

Although the App Store release notes only mention bug fixes, the change is easy to spot if you already use Google Maps on the iPhone Duo. Previously, the app felt somewhat out of place on the outer screen because of the new iOS dock position, while the inner screen displayed a standard iPhone layout that left a lot of empty space on the sides.

With the update, Google Maps finally makes the most of both displays. The outer screen looks cleaner and more balanced, while the inner screen switches to a much wider layout. The menu and search bar sit on the left, while the map or satellite view stretches across the rest of the screen, giving the app a feel closer to the iPad version of Google Maps.

Street View is one of the biggest improvements. By default, it occupies the left side of the inner display, with the map shown on the right. Users can also expand Street View to fill the whole screen. If the iPhone Duo is closed while Street View is active, the view shifts to the outer display, and a close button lets you return to the main map.
