Samsung’s Android XR glasses reportedly go on sale in mid-December in South Korea and the US

Introduction: Samsung’s upcoming Intelligent Eyewear is nearing release, and a new report suggests the Android XR-powered glasses will be available to buy in only two countries before the end of the year.

According to a South Korean report, Samsung plans to begin selling its Intelligent Eyewear in mid-December, following an expected launch announcement in November. The first wave of sales will reportedly be limited to South Korea and the United States, while Europe, China, and Japan will not be part of the initial release.

The approach mirrors Samsung’s strategy with its Galaxy XR headset, which launched in South Korea and the US last October before arriving in the UK in July. Pricing for the glasses has not yet been decided, according to the report.

For a quick refresher, the Intelligent Eyewear runs Android XR with Gemini and has no display, but it includes a camera, microphones, and speakers. It can handle real-time translation, provide voice-guided directions, and capture photos of documents or meetings that are automatically organized in the Notes app on a Galaxy phone. The glasses are powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset and are rated for up to nine hours of use on a single charge.

The frames were designed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Samsung has shown four styles so far — two at Google I/O in May and two at its Galaxy Unpacked event. For a closer look at the glasses, check out our eyes-on report.
