Galaxy S27 Ultra chipset saga continues: Europe tipped for Snapdragon, Korea still undecided

Few upcoming flagships have inspired as much chipset uncertainty as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Over the past several months, conflicting reports have pointed to different processors for different regions, making the device’s silicon one of the most closely watched stories in mobile tech. Here is the latest twist in that ongoing saga.

In July, word was that the Galaxy S27 Ultra would feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in all markets, while other models in the lineup would turn to the Exynos 2700 outside North America. By early September, however, insiders suggested Samsung had begun building Exynos 2700-powered S27 Ultra units for Korea and Europe.

October brought more back-and-forth. Reports indicated Samsung had started mass producing the Exynos 2700 even as the Ultra decision remained unresolved. Days later, a tipster claimed the S27 Ultra would only be offered with a Qualcomm processor. Soon after, a report alleged the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was running too hot in Samsung’s testing, which Qualcomm denied. Then last week, the Exynos 2700 reportedly came out ahead of Qualcomm’s chip in internal tests once again.

The newest update from Ice Universe says there are still no signs that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the Exynos 2700 in Europe. The situation in South Korea, the tipster notes, remains uncertain.

If the latest information holds, European customers would receive the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in the Galaxy S27 Ultra, while Samsung’s home market could still see either chip. As usual, nothing is official until Samsung announces it, and given the twists so far, additional surprises cannot be ruled out.
