The long-running saga over which chipset will power the Galaxy S27 Ultra has taken yet another turn. A new report sheds light on Europe while leaving South Korea up in the air.
Rumors have swung back and forth for months. In July, the Ultra was expected to get a Snapdragon chip globally, with the rest of the lineup using the Exynos 2700 outside North America. By early September, insiders said Samsung was building Exynos 2700-powered S27 Ultra units for Korea and Europe.
October brought a flurry of conflicting reports. Samsung reportedly started mass producing the Exynos 2700, but the choice for the Ultra was still undecided. Days later, another tip claimed the S27 Ultra would be Qualcomm-only. Mid-month, a report alleged the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was overheating in Samsung's testing, which Qualcomm denied. Last week, the Exynos 2700 reportedly beat Qualcomm’s chip in internal tests again.
Now Ice Universe says there are still no signs that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the Exynos 2700 in Europe. South Korea remains uncertain, according to the tipster. If this holds, European buyers would receive the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in their S27 Ultra devices, while the Korean model could go either way.
Of course, nothing is final until Samsung makes an official announcement, and given the history of this chipset saga, more twists are likely before the Galaxy S27 Ultra is unveiled.
