Google is making Gemini a more seamless editing companion by letting users refine generated files without leaving the chat window.
Earlier this year, Gemini gained the ability to create files such as Google Docs, Sheets, PDFs, and Markdown documents. But until now, if you wanted to change what Gemini produced, you had to download or export the file first. Starting today, Google is fixing that by allowing users to preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code, and more directly inside the Gemini app.
Files can be expanded to full screen, where you can type edits directly, highlight text to ask questions about it, have Gemini refine the text or visuals, or ask follow-up questions.
There is one limitation: PDF preview and editing works on both the web and mobile, but every other format—including Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code—is supported on the web only, at least for now. The new capabilities are available to all Gemini users, in every language the app supports, starting today.
