Samsung Enhances Gallery Cloud Sync with Google Photos Integration

Samsung has taken a significant step in enhancing the user experience of its Gallery Cloud Sync app by adding support for Google Photos. This move comes as the tech giant transitions away from OneDrive and aims to provide a seamless cloud storage solution for Galaxy device users. With the new integration launching soon, users will benefit from improved storage capabilities and more efficient photo management.

The updated version of the Gallery Cloud Sync app (v1.6.09.31) will officially roll out on October 1st, coinciding with the discontinuation of OneDrive support. This transition introduces users to Samsung Cloud as a native alternative, providing only 15GB of free storage compared to Google’s generous 5TB available through the AI Pro plan that many Galaxy devices now offer.

With the integration of Google Photos, users can easily back up photos and videos directly from their devices. By default, images and videos from the camera roll will sync automatically, although users have the option to customize this by selecting specific folders. All synced media will be accessible across devices and can be viewed on the Google Photos app or website. It’s important to note, however, that deletions and edits made in either app will synchronize, resulting in the removal of any deleted files and display of both original and edited versions.

While this feature comes with limitations, such as exclusions from Google Photos functionalities like Memories, highlights, and Live albums, users can still access these features by utilizing the Google Photos app for syncing. Some users have already shared screenshots on social media platforms demonstrating the integration in action, showcasing the benefit of Google’s substantial cloud storage capacity.

Additionally, Samsung Smart TV owners can look forward to enhanced Google Photos integration, which utilizes the Memories feature to create personalized slideshows and curated stories based on their Google Photos library.

As Samsung continues its focus on optimizing cloud services, the addition of Google Photos to the Gallery Cloud Sync app marks an exciting advancement for users who prioritize photo storage and management.
