Qualcomm Announces Price Increase for Snapdragon Chipsets
In a significant development for the tech industry, Qualcomm has officially confirmed its plans to raise prices for its Snapdragon chipsets. This announcement comes directly from CEO Cristiano Amon during an interview with CNBC, indicating that the revised pricing will take effect starting September 1.
Amon explained that the decision to raise prices is primarily driven by increasing input costs associated with chipset production. In a separate press release, Qualcomm stated that it can no longer absorb these production cost increases, necessitating the adjustment in pricing for its products.
While Qualcomm has not disclosed the exact amount of the price increase, reports suggest it could be a double-digit hike. This development presents a challenge for smartphone manufacturers, who are already grappling with soaring memory chip prices. As a result, consumers may soon face higher prices for smartphones as OEMs pass on these increased costs.
