Sony 1000X The ColleXion Review: Premium Noise-Cancelling Headphones Elevate Your Audio Experience

Source: Date:

If you're a headphone enthusiast, you're likely familiar with Sony's WH-1000X series. This renowned line of wireless over-ear noise-cancelling headphones stands alongside the Bose QuietComfort 35 as a leading choice for consumers. Despite increasing competition, including notable entries from Apple, Sony's 1000X series has remained highly popular for years.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their wireless over-ear ANC headphones, Sony has unveiled the Sony 1000X The ColleXion, a premium addition to their lineup. Instead of replacing the WH-1000XM6, this model is positioned above it.

What can you expect from this new model? Starting with the exterior, the headphones have a softer feel and are more comfortable to wear. The headband is wider, while the ear cups are wrapped in high-quality synthetic leather and adorned with stainless steel accents on the stems.

Unlike the WH-1000XM6, which folds, this model only swivels (similar to the XM5). The 1000X The ColleXion is available in Black and Platinum White.

Similar to the WH-1000XM6, it features 12 microphones for calls and active noise cancellation. The headphones also incorporate the QN3 processor responsible for noise cancellation. However, it now features an upgraded V3 version that enhances sound processing and offers advanced spatial modes.

With 360 Upmix technology optimized for music, cinema, and gaming, users can easily switch between modes using a dedicated hardware button.

The sound tuning is notably more audiophile-friendly, enhancing clarity in the highs and widening the soundstage. Sony has involved high-profile acoustic engineers in refining the sound of these new headphones.

This clear direction indicates Sony's intent to differentiate the 1000X The ColleXion from the traditionally warm and bass-heavy sound profile often associated with the WH-1000X series.

Upgrades extend beyond sound processing to new drivers that feature a "unidirectional carbon layered core composite." This design promises to provide improved treble detail, separation, and soundstage.
