Sony is set to launch its WH-1000X headphones tomorrow, but a significant leak has rendered the official announcement nearly unnecessary, revealing detailed, official-looking images and key specifications ahead of time.
Sony WH-1000X: An Overview
The primary takeaway is that the WH-1000X is being positioned as a premium option compared to the WH-1000XM6, though they are not direct replacements.
The latest leak confirms the design from previously leaked renders, showcasing the WH-1000X with a modified yoke (hinge) made from what appears to be brushed metal.

This brushed metal extends to the outer portion of the headband, while the inner side is crafted from a soft, leather-like material. The headband of the upcoming headphones appears thicker and wider than that of the WH-1000XM6. Additionally, three physical buttons can be spotted on one earcup, signifying one more than the XM6s.
Sony WH-1000X in White
The ColleXion model will be available in both black and white, accompanied by a redesigned carrying case that features an integrated handle. This case appears to be constructed from similar fabric to that of previous WH-1000X series cases.

The leaked product images reveal that these headphones will not fold like the XM6 generation but will revert to the swivel mechanism found in the XM5s. Included with the headphones are a 3.5mm audio cable and a USB cable for charging.
In terms of audio quality, the WH-1000X is reported to feature “bespoke drivers” co-tuned with mastering engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering. Currently, there is no specific information on the driver size.
Key Specifications of the Sony WH-1000X
The headphones will incorporate a total of 12 microphones evenly distributed between both sides, equipped with adaptive ANC and beamforming technology for precise voice pickup. The leaked information confirms that they feature the same QN3 Noise Canceling Processor as the XM6s but are also equipped with a new V3 integrated processor, which could enhance ANC performance and/or sound processing capabilities.
More Key Specs
The slides state that battery life is expected to be 24 hours with ANC enabled and up to 32 hours with ANC disabled. These figures are actually lower than those of the WH-1000XM6, which claims 30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off.
Finally, the WH-1000X is projected to launch at $649/€629/£549, making it $200/€180/£150 more expensive than the XM6s upon release.
