Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro: Exciting Upgrades Await, But Higher Prices Loom

Xiaomi is gearing up to unveil its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro. With specifications and pricing details leaking online ahead of their official release, tech enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation. However, the price tags attached to these models might be a shock. Here’s a detailed look at what upgrades the new phones bring to the table.

Highlights of the Xiaomi 17T

According to a French tech site, the Xiaomi 17T is set to feature a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a slight reduction from the previous generation's 6.8-inch screen. The phone will reportedly offer a generous 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and come with two storage options: 256 GB and 512 GB. Additionally, a bigger 6500 mAh battery will be included, exceeding its predecessor's capacity by 1000 mAh and supporting 67W wired charging.

Powering the 17T will be the Dimensity 8500 Ultra SoC, an upgrade from the Dimensity 8400 Ultra found in the Xiaomi 15T. However, the camera specs will remain unchanged, featuring a triple camera setup with two 50 MP sensors and a 12 MP ultrawide lens, alongside a 32 MP front-facing camera.

What to Expect from the Xiaomi 17T Pro

The Xiaomi 17T Pro is expected to maintain a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, alongside 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage capacity. This model will boast an upgraded 6000 mAh battery, surpassing the previous generation's 5500 mAh battery.

Under the hood, it will be equipped with a new Dimensity 9500 chip, providing better performance than the Dimensity 9400+ of its predecessor. The main camera will see an enhancement to a 50 MP sensor with a Light Fusion 950 sensor and an f/1.74 aperture, whereas the telephoto, ultrawide, and selfie cameras will remain consistent with the previous model.

Price Increases on the Horizon

In addition to the hardware upgrades, the prices for both models are expected to rise significantly. The Xiaomi 17T is rumored to be priced at €749 ($876), which is €200 more than the Xiaomi 15T. Similarly, the 17T Pro may retail for €999 ($1169), also €200 above its predecessor. This upward trend in pricing is speculated to be influenced by the ongoing RAM crisis, pushing these formerly budget-friendly flagship killers closer to the premium category.

Reflections on the Xiaomi 17T Series

While the Xiaomi 15T had its share of shortcomings in terms of pricing and features, the 17T does not seem to promise improvements in critical areas like wireless charging. However, the 17T Pro’s processor has raised expectations for superior performance, comparable to that found in other high-end devices.

There are mentions of a possible early launch for the Xiaomi 17T series, likely in May, first in China, with availability in the West to follow. Tech lovers will be eager to see if these new devices can deliver on their upgraded promises.
