Google Imposes New Restrictions on Pixel 10 Users with Upcoming Update

Source: Date:

As Android enthusiasts have long appreciated the operating system’s flexibility compared to its iOS counterpart, recent trends suggest that Google is tightening its grip on users' freedom, particularly for the Pixel 10 lineup of smartphones. A forthcoming software update may introduce significant limitations for Pixel 10 owners, making it more challenging to downgrade their devices.

New Anti-Rollback Protection for Pixel 10 Devices

The Pixel 10 series, which includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, first launched in 2025. According to information shared by Mystic Leaks on Telegram, the upcoming update will increase the anti-rollback version of the bootloader for these devices. Interestingly, this update is not expected to impact the recently launched Pixel 10a model.

Goodbye to Downgrading Options

With the implementation of this anti-rollback feature, Pixel 10 users will find themselves unable to revert to a previous version of Android through conventional methods. Attempting to do so may put them at risk of rendering their devices unusable, or "bricking" them.
