
In 2025, India's tablet market experienced a contraction of 21.7% compared to 2024, totaling 4.4 million shipments, according to a new report by IDC. The only brands that saw growth were Lenovo and Xiaomi. Samsung led the market with a 37.2% share, equating to 1.6 million shipments, followed by Lenovo, which achieved 666,000 shipments, marking a year-on-year growth of 28.9%.

Xiaomi secured the third position, growing by 12.1% and reaching a 12.8% market share with 576,000 shipments. Apple followed closely with 540,000 shipments, corresponding to a 12% market share; however, its sales dropped by 14% year-on-year. Acer ranked fifth with 335,000 shipments, holding a 7.5% market share, but faced a significant decline of 68.8% compared to the previous year.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Samsung and Lenovo maintained their leading positions, with Apple third, Xiaomi fourth, and Whistel fifth. Whistel exhibited remarkable growth of 292.7% compared to Q4 2024. Lenovo's and Xiaomi's growth rates stood at 56.5% and 30.8%, respectively.

Priyansh Tiwari, a research analyst at IDC India & South Asia, stated: "The integration of 5G, AI-enabled productivity features, and smart note-taking capabilities is transitioning tablets from mere media consumption devices to essential tools for everyday productivity. As notebook prices increase, detachable tablets are emerging as a practical and cost-effective alternative for students and young professionals."
