Xiaomi is now offering a complimentary hardware update for its high-performance electric car, the SU7 Ultra. Starting March 10, 2026, owners can schedule an appointment to repair the front hood. The update introduces two new aerodynamic vanes inside the vehicle's air ducts, enhancing stability at high speeds. Installation at a Xiaomi service center takes approximately two to three hours.
This update specifically targets the premium carbon fiber hood, which some owners purchased as an optional extra for RMB 42,000, roughly €4,960. When the car launched in early 2025, Xiaomi marketed the hood as having "dual air ducts" designed to cool the battery and wheels. However, customers who examined the car discovered that the ducts were cosmetic and did not serve a functional purpose, eliciting anger among purchasers.

Following legal disputes across China, a court in Suzhou ruled in October 2025 that Xiaomi engaged in false advertising, mandating the company to pay triple damages to certain owners. Conversely, a subsequent ruling in Changsha favored Xiaomi, stating that the marketing language did not constitute outright falsehoods.
To resolve ongoing legal matters, Xiaomi is enhancing the hood's functionality. The new vanes work in tandem with the car's front grille to regulate airflow through the front section, activating only when the driver selects "Track Mode" or when the vehicle exceeds 150 km/h. This precise airflow increases downforce, ensuring the car remains firmly on the road.

Xiaomi indicated that the new aerodynamic features might slightly increase battery consumption, potentially reducing the vehicle's range when active. The standard version boasts a range of over 600 km, according to optimistic Chinese testing standards.
The SU7 Ultra is a remarkable machine, equipped with three electric motors that deliver 1,138 kW (approximately 1,526 hp). It features a high-power battery developed by CATL, tailored to meet the energy demands required for racing. Xiaomi designed this model to compete with other high-speed electric vehicles, including the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Zeekr 001 FR.

In January 2026, reports indicated that Xiaomi sold only 45 units of the SU7 Ultra. To boost sales, the company significantly reduced the price from early 2024 estimates of RMB 814,900 to RMB 529,900, or approximately €62,700.
By providing this free update, Xiaomi is treating its vehicles similarly to smartphones. Just as a phone receives software updates to fix issues, Xiaomi is "patching" the car's hardware to align with initial promises. This demonstrates the company's commitment to regaining customer trust after a difficult introduction of its flagship model.
