Apple Pay's New "Outrun" Ad Showcases Speedy Payments in a High-Stakes Scenario

Apple recently debuted a captivating new commercial for its Apple Pay feature, highlighting just how quickly the mobile payment system can come to the rescue when time is critical. The 30-second spot, titled "Outrun," presents a tense story of a woman driving at breakneck speed, desperately trying to evade pursuers. Encountering an unexpected obstacle, she finds herself out of gas and forced to make a swift payment to continue her escape — with Apple Pay saving the day.

Swift Solutions When You Need Them Most

In the ad, the woman’s fuel gauge arrow is dangerously below “E,” signaling an urgent need. She pulls up at a run-down gas station that looks anything but reassuring. Inside, the attendant directs her to use the point of sale terminal at the window. Frantically searching her pockets for a payment method, she finds nothing but relief washes over her when she spots a sticker indicating the station accepts Apple Pay.

As police cars storm past in the background, the woman uses her iPhone 17 and Apple Pay to quickly pay for gas. This allows her to continue her high-speed escape and avoid the intimidating threat revealed at the end of the commercial — a massive dinosaur eyeing the gas station.

Apple Pay: A Powerhouse Driven by Volume

Although Apple Pay’s revenue margin sits at about 0.15% per transaction — meaning Apple earns just 15 cents on a $100 purchase — the system has proven highly lucrative due to its widespread usage. Since launching on October 20, 2014, Apple Pay has become one of the most popular mobile payment options in the U.S. For Apple’s fiscal year 2025, ending September 27th, it is estimated to have generated between $4 billion and $4.5 billion in revenue.
