Apple previously relied on Intel chips for its laptops and desktops before shifting to its own M-series processors. Now, new reports indicate that Apple is preparing to partner with Intel again, but this time Intel will exclusively handle chip manufacturing without participating in the design process.
This move aims to diversify Apple's supply chain by reducing its dependency on TSMC for chip production, with Intel serving as an additional fabrication partner.
According to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, a deal between Intel and Apple is expected to supply some non-Pro iPhone A-series chips beginning in 2028. Initially, Intel will produce a small portion of Apple’s chips while TSMC remains the primary manufacturer.
Additionally, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Intel could start manufacturing Apple’s entry-level M-series chips for Macs and iPads as early as mid-2027. These M-series chips would utilize Intel’s advanced 18A process, which represents one of the earliest sub-2nm fabrication nodes available in North America.
