Multiple High-Level Apple Executives Announce Departures Amid Leadership Changes

Source: Date:

Apple is experiencing significant turnover within its senior leadership team. Last month, a leading designer of the iPhone Air departed the company. Most recently, Bloomberg reported that Alan Dye, Vice President of Human Interface Design since 2015, will be leaving Apple.

Dye is set to join Meta, where he will lead a new design studio. Apple plans to fill his position with Steve Lemay, who, according to CEO Tim Cook, has influenced every Apple interface design since 1999.

Additionally, Apple announced that Katherine Adams, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, will be stepping down.

Jackson will retire at the end of January, with her Government Affairs responsibilities temporarily overseen by Adams until Adams' own planned retirement in late 2026. Meanwhile, the Environment and Social Initiatives portfolio will transition to Sabih Khan, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.

Jennifer Newstead will succeed Adams as Senior Vice President and General Counsel starting March 1. Newstead was previously Meta’s Chief Legal Officer, marking an interesting leadership crossover between the two tech giants.

Earlier this week, Apple also announced the retirement of John Giannandrea, Senior Vice President of Machine Learning and AI Strategy. Giannandrea will remain as an advisor until his formal retirement in spring 2026. Amar Subramanya has been promoted to Vice President of AI to fill his role.

Speculation continues that the most significant departure may be imminent — CEO Tim Cook’s tenure could be nearing its end. Reports indicate that John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, is being considered as a potential successor.
