The OnePlus 15R, the more affordable sibling to the flagship OnePlus 15, has officially confirmed one standout feature that will captivate many users: a huge 7,400mAh battery. While this is the largest battery size OnePlus has ever shipped in phones sold in markets like India, it doesn't quite top the record set by the powerful OnePlus Ace 6T available exclusively in China.
"Our biggest battery ever"... but varies by region
Recent social media teasers have finally confirmed the OnePlus 15R’s 7,400mAh battery capacity. For consumers in India, this marks the largest smartphone battery from the brand to date. However, Chinese customers have access to the OnePlus Ace 6T, which packs an even more impressive 8,300mAh battery. Additionally, the regular Ace 6, launched just weeks ago in China, features a hefty 7,800mAh cell — still larger than the 15R’s battery.
Many anticipated the 15R to be a global version of the Ace 6T, but this battery difference is a notable deviation — though other specifications appear to align closely between the two models.
Despite the 15R’s battery cell being smaller than the Ace models, 7,400mAh remains a significant capacity. It barely edges out the OnePlus 15 flagship’s 7,300mAh battery and significantly outperforms recent flagships like Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL in raw battery numbers.
Even upcoming models like the Galaxy S26 Ultra are expected to feature batteries below the 6,000mAh mark, making the 15R’s cell size particularly notable. Still, real-world battery endurance depends on numerous factors, so capacity alone doesn’t guarantee longer runtimes.
Is the OnePlus 15R’s battery capacity enough to excite you?
Currently, 40.43% of voters say the battery is exciting, while 25.53% expected more.
OnePlus’s previous model, the 13R, featured a sizable 6,000mAh battery but didn’t rank highly in battery life testing, illustrating that capacity doesn't always translate directly to endurance.
Additional confirmed specifications
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor;
- 165Hz display refresh rate;
- IP66/68/69/69K water and dust resistance certifications;
- OxygenOS 16 out of the box.
While many other details like a 50MP + 8MP dual camera setup, 16MP front camera, 100W fast charging, up to 16GB RAM, and a 6.83-inch screen diagonal are rumored, official confirmation is still pending.
Among the confirmed highlights is the impressive IP rating, which promises exceptional protection against water and dust—something few competitors can match. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset under the hood further reinforces the 15R’s positioning as a high-end, yet affordable Android device. Note that this SoC differs from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 featured in the flagship OnePlus 15.
The 165Hz refresh rate is also a step up from the 120Hz display found on the early 2025-launched OnePlus 13R, which should provide a silky-smooth viewing experience.
Should you wait for the OnePlus 15R?
If you haven’t yet purchased the OnePlus 15 flagship, holding out another two weeks until the December 17 launch of the OnePlus 15R might be worthwhile. The device will launch in markets including India and Europe, allowing consumers to make a fully informed decision based on official pricing and availability.
The 15R has the potential to become a global hit provided it arrives at an attractive price point. However, availability in other regions such as the US remains uncertain, so it’s something to keep an eye on.
