Verizon Introduces New Family Tech Agreement to Help Manage Screen Time and Digital Habits

Source: Date:

Verizon has launched a new family-oriented tech agreement aimed at helping parents and children better navigate their screen time and device usage at home. This initiative provides a clear framework for setting boundaries, reducing screen addiction, and fostering open communication about daily technology habits.

Advancing Verizon's Commitment to Digital Wellbeing

Verizon has long been an advocate for digital wellbeing, especially within families. Building on this mission, the company has created the Verizon Family Tech Agreement in collaboration with the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) and its own digital-wellbeing experts. This contract is designed to be practical, easy to follow, and mutually agreed upon by both parents and children.

Earlier this year, Straight Talk—Verizon's prepaid brand—introduced the First Phone Pact, and now Verizon is introducing this new agreement to further support families in managing technology use together.

Stephen Balkam, Founder and CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute, shares, "The most effective tech agreements are the ones families create side by side. When kids help shape the expectations, they’re far more likely to follow them — and to come back to parents when something feels confusing or unsafe."

  • Defining what screen time looks like within your household
  • Managing apps, purchases, and online activities
  • Specifying how and when devices and apps should be used
  • Employing safety tools such as parental controls and location tracking
  • Handling mistakes with understanding rather than shame

The agreement is digital but can be printed for those who want a more tangible commitment.

Importantly, the contract addresses responsibilities for both parents and children, acknowledging that adults struggle with digital distractions as well.

More than Just an Agreement: Tools to Support Families

Alongside this contract, Verizon offers the Family App and resources via Parenting in a Digital World. These tools enable parents to set screen-time limits, block inappropriate content, monitor location when necessary, and maintain ongoing conversations about digital habits and online safety.

Why Big Carriers Matter in Digital Wellbeing

Verizon’s focus on screen addiction sets an example that other major carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T could follow to help families adopt healthier tech habits.
