Galaxy Z Fold 8 Poised to Finally Deliver Longer Battery Life and Faster Charging

Source: Date:

Samsung made notable advancements with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, improving its design and hinge mechanics. However, two key problems persisted that foldable phone enthusiasts have long hoped to see resolved: limited battery endurance and slow charging speeds. Emerging leaks now indicate that Samsung is preparing to tackle these concerns head-on with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected in 2025.

Enhanced Battery Capacity and 45W Fast Charging

Renowned leaker @kro_roe revealed that the Fold 8 will feature a revamped internal design enabling 45W wired charging—matching the charging speeds found in the upcoming Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra models. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to launch with a significantly larger battery, reportedly close to 5,000 mAh, marking a considerable jump from the 4,400 mAh cell that Samsung has reused since the Z Fold 3 in 2021.

"The Fold 8 appears to feature a more optimized internal architecture, retaining 45W charging while increasing the battery capacity."

Previous models, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, struggled with battery life—often falling short in endurance tests—and were hampered by just 15W charging speeds, which made quick top-ups impossible. A bigger battery combined with faster charging could dramatically improve user experience.

Charging Speed Improvements Still Short of Ultra Models

While the Fold 8’s 45W fast charging represents a large leap from the Fold 7’s 15W limit, it remains slightly behind rumored 60W charging in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra. Due to design constraints like a slimmer frame and dual-battery setup, 45W is a practical and sensible enhancement.

Wireless charging may still lag behind, as no credible reports suggest Samsung will upgrade it on the Fold 8, which could remain an area for future improvement.

Market Pressures and Competitor Dynamics

Samsung is expected to face increased competition soon, especially since Apple plans to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026. This new competitor will likely redefine expectations in the foldable segment.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 aims to solidify its standing by refining core features like battery and charging, making it a more formidable option as the foldable smartphone market heats up.
