Netflix Disables Casting to Most TVs and Streaming Devices with Remotes

Netflix has quietly disabled the ability to cast content from mobile devices to most TVs and TV streaming devices, including Google TV Streamer and older Chromecast models that come with remotes.

Interestingly, casting remains functional on older Chromecasts that do not include a remote. Essentially, if the device has a remote, casting is now disabled; if it doesn’t, casting still works.

While some users may prefer navigating Netflix with a remote rather than through casting—often considered unreliable—this decision by Netflix is puzzling and lacks clear justification. The company has only stated that the change is intended to "improve the customer experience," a claim many find questionable.

This restriction applies regardless of which Netflix subscription plan a user has; it is not limited to free or lower-tier accounts.
