Sony has introduced a groundbreaking new camera sensor, the LYT-901, signaling a major shift from their traditional IMX series. With its cutting-edge technology and innovative features, this sensor could redefine smartphone photography and challenge the reigning Galaxy S26 Ultra’s dominant 200 MP camera. Here’s everything we know so far about the LYT-901 and why it might revolutionize mobile imaging.

Until devices equipped with the LYT-901 hit the market in 2026, we can only anticipate its performance based on Sony’s specifications. The sensor features incredibly tiny pixels measuring just 0.7μm, allowing it to capture both impressive detail and sufficient light in dim environments.
The LYT-901 utilizes a novel Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) system, combining 16 pixels of the same color into groups. Under typical shooting circumstances, these groups function as larger pixels to enhance low-light performance. However, when zooming, AI-driven remosaicing breaks these groups back down into individual pixels, delivering the sharpest possible images with outstanding clarity.
This represents a significant evolution over Sony’s previous IMX09E sensor technology, promising even better image quality in a variety of conditions.
The Battle Ahead: LYT-901 vs Galaxy S26 Ultra
Sony’s LYT-901 sensor could provide a formidable challenge to the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 200 MP camera, which is already a benchmark in smartphone photography. Both sensors promise exceptional resolution and advanced imaging capabilities, setting the stage for a fierce competition in next-generation flagship phones.
