The iPhone Air is experiencing sluggish sales, which appears to have discouraged at least three prominent Chinese smartphone manufacturers from pursuing ultra-slim, lightweight designs. According to a recent DigiTimes report, Xiaomi, Oppo, and vivo have all reportedly canceled their plans to release ultra-slim phones aimed at competing with the iPhone Air.

The report also highlights that Apple’s major supplier Foxconn has scaled back iPhone production lines, while Luxshare has completely stopped its iPhone assembly operations. Additionally, the iPhone Air’s lead designer recently left Apple, and the company has delayed the launch of its successor.

It’s not only the iPhone Air experiencing challenges; Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is reportedly underperforming as well, with Samsung canceling plans for its follow-up model.
