After 14 years, Apple is poised to reclaim the top position in global smartphone shipments, overtaking Samsung. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple is expected to ship over 243 million iPhones in 2025, capturing an estimated 19.4% share of the global smartphone market. Meanwhile, Samsung, the current market leader, is projected to ship 235 million units, holding an 18.7% market share.

The success of the iPhone 17 series has been a significant driver for Apple, with Q3 shipments growing by 9% compared to last year’s iPhone 16 series. Additionally, demand for the iPhone 17 series in the United States was 12% higher during the first four weeks post-launch. Demand in China surged even more, rising 18% compared to the previous year.

Apple is also benefiting from the natural upgrade cycle, as many consumers who purchased smartphones during the COVID-19 pandemic are now ready to replace their devices. The gap between Apple and Samsung is expected to widen over the coming years, with Apple projected to retain its position as the global leader in smartphone shipments through 2029.
