The iPhone Air’s underwhelming sales appear to have discouraged several Chinese manufacturers from pursuing ultra-slim smartphone designs. According to a recent report by DigiTimes, major Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and vivo have reportedly canceled plans to release ultra-slim models aimed at competing with the iPhone Air.

The report highlights that Apple’s key supplier Foxconn has scaled back iPhone production lines, while Luxshare has completely stopped its iPhone assembly operations. Additionally, the designer behind the Air recently left Apple, and the release of its successor model has been delayed.

The challenges with slim phone models are not limited to Apple; Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is also reportedly underperforming, with Samsung allegedly canceling its successor as well.
