Electric vehicles are often associated with quiet, practical commuting, but Opel, a German automaker renowned for compact bestsellers like the Astra, is shifting gears. Drawing from its rich motorsport heritage, Opel is now introducing high-performance technology to its electric lineup.

Opel has incorporated rally racing advancements into its latest production model, the Opel Mokka GSE. This vehicle is more than just a bold design statement; it promises to deliver an authentic "rally feeling" on everyday roads, making it the fastest electric Opel ever.

Based closely on the Mokka GSE Rally prototype, the new sports model shares critical high-voltage components including the motor, inverter, battery, and wiring harness. The single electric motor produces an impressive peak output of 207 kW (281 hp) and delivers an instant 254 lb-ft of torque. This enables the Mokka GSE to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 124 mph.

To manage this powerful performance, Opel has equipped the Mokka GSE with specialized technology. A Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential ensures optimal power distribution to the front wheels, enhancing grip during acceleration and cornering. The chassis features custom axles and hydraulic shock absorbers, calibrated with insights gained from electric rally competition.

Braking and steering systems are also refined for sporty driving. For varying driver preferences, the Mokka GSE offers three driving modes: 'Sport' delivers full power; 'Normal' limits top speed to 112 mph for everyday use; and 'Eco' prioritizes efficiency by adjusting system settings. The vehicle utilizes a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery—shared with the standard Mokka—though official range figures have yet to be disclosed.

The Mokka GSE’s sporty character is evident from its bold exterior. It features GSE-specific front and rear apron inserts inspired by the rally prototype, rides on aerodynamic 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 225/40 tires, and sports striking yellow four-piston brake calipers at the front. Yellow and black GSE badging further emphasizes its performance pedigree.

Inside, the racing spirit continues with Alcantara GSE Performance seats that offer integrated headrests, yellow stitching, and a white center line to keep occupants firmly in place. The steering wheel is uniquely flattened at both top and bottom, complemented by aluminum sports pedals for a distinctly athletic feel.

Key information is presented on a customizable 10-inch digital instrument display and a central color touchscreen with navigation. Exclusive GSE performance data—such as G-force, acceleration metrics, and battery management statistics—are also available. Standard safety and convenience features include the Intelli-Lux Matrix glare-free headlights, active lane keeping assist, and a 180-degree rear-view camera.
