The all-new, all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake has officially launched in Europe, generating excitement among buyers. This elegantly designed wagon blends sporty aesthetics with impressive range and advanced technology, making it ideal for families, active lifestyles, or anyone seeking extra space without compromising style. However, the premium price may be a consideration for some.

Mercedes offers two powerful variants, both equipped with the same 85 kWh lithium-ion battery. The entry-level CLA 250+ Shooting Brake with EQ technology features rear-wheel drive and delivers 200 kW of power. It boasts an impressive range of up to 477 miles on a full charge according to the WLTP cycle. Pricing in Germany starts at $66,888, with private lease options from $474 per month.

For enhanced performance and traction, the top-tier CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake with EQ technology adds a second motor for all-wheel drive, delivering 260 kW and 380 lb-ft of torque. It starts at $72,226 and offers a strong electric range of up to 454 miles. Both models utilize an advanced 800V electrical system supporting fast DC charging up to 320 kW, enabling drivers to gain up to 196 miles of range in just 10 minutes at compatible stations. A real-world driving range test of the sedan CLA is available here.

The unique "Shooting Brake" silhouette features a smoothly extended roofline, increasing practicality while maintaining sporty appeal with signature "power domes" on the hood and a sleek, flat rear end. The interior is versatile, with rear seats folding in a 40:20:40 split to expand cargo space up to 45.6 ft³.

Loading is simplified by the standard electric EASY-PACK tailgate. For additional gear, roof rails come standard, and the all-wheel-drive model supports towing up to 3,968 lb. The front trunk (frunk) offers an extra 3.57 ft³ of storage, ideal for cables and accessories. A fixed glass roof extends seamlessly to the rear, enhancing cabin openness while featuring a high-tech coating that reduces heat intrusion in summer and retains warmth during winter.

Inside, the driver experience centers around the advanced MB.OS system, transforming the vehicle into a connected smart device with cloud integration and over-the-air updates for driving assistance and other features. The MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by Microsoft and Google AI, offers intuitive voice interaction akin to conversing with a friend.

Passengers can enjoy an optional 14-inch screen providing access to entertainment platforms like Disney+ and cloud gaming via Boosteroid. The navigation system is enhanced by Google Maps data combined with Mercedes-Benz’s Electric Intelligence, optimizing route planning and battery preconditioning for efficient fast charging.

Responding to customer feedback, Mercedes redesigned the steering wheel controls for the new CLA. It reinstates physical buttons like rocker switches for cruise control and a rotary dial for volume, blending tactile inputs with integrated capacitive touch panels that provide satisfying clicks.

Safety features include standard DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control across the European lineup. Buyers may opt for the MB.DRIVE ASSIST package, delivering SAE Level 2 driver assistance with steering support. A new Lane Change Assist function simplifies highway maneuvering by enabling lane changes with a single turn signal action.

Combining premium design, outstanding electric range, and advanced technology, the Shooting Brake stands out in the luxury segment. Mercedes anticipates strong demand, as the wagon’s added cargo space and towing capability enhance its practicality for daily use and long trips.

While the Shooting Brake is a welcome addition to Mercedes’s electric lineup, its pricing reflects its premium positioning. German prices are lower compared to the UK, where an AMG Line 350+ variant with minimal extras, including a $1,170 400V charging option, can total around $101,207. This places it at the high end of the market for a medium-sized electric wagon, despite its strong attributes.
