Huawei Mate X7 Unveiled with IP59 Rating, Kirin 9030 Pro, Larger Battery, and Enhanced Cameras

Source: Date:

Huawei has officially launched its latest foldable smartphone, the Mate X7. This model introduces significant upgrades over its predecessor, including improved IP58 and IP59 ingress protection ratings, Huawei’s new Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, an upgraded telephoto camera, and a slightly larger battery capacity.

Huawei Mate X7 Design and Build

Despite the Mate X6 already being sleek and lightweight, Huawei has further refined the Mate X7's dimensions. The device now measures 9.5mm when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded. Weighing 235 grams, it is 4 grams lighter than its predecessor while maintaining a robust aluminum frame.

The improved IP58 and IP59 ratings ensure that the Mate X7 is dust-resistant and can withstand water exposure, including splashes and high-pressure jets at close range.

Display Features

The Mate X7 boasts slightly larger screens: a 6.49-inch cover display with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio, and an 8-inch main display with an 8:7.3 ratio. Both panels use LTPO OLED technology, offering a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, and feature high-frequency PWM dimming at 1,440Hz for comfortable viewing.

Camera System

Photography capabilities include the same 50MP main camera from the previous model, featuring an RYYB sensor, a 10-stop physical variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0), and optical image stabilization (OIS). The telephoto camera has been upgraded to a 50MP sensor with a wider f/2.2 aperture and 3.5x optical zoom. Additionally, the device includes a 40MP ultrawide lens. Selfie cameras consist of two 8MP sensors located on both the cover and inner screens.

Performance and Battery

The Mate X7 is powered by Huawei’s flagship Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, also featured in the newly released Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max. While full specifications are not available, the SoC reportedly employs a nine-core ARMv8 architecture: one prime core at 2.75GHz, four performance cores at 2.27GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.72GHz. It is paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

The device houses a dual-cell silicon-carbide (Si-C) battery with a total capacity of 5,600mAh. It supports fast charging at 66W wired and 50W wireless. The Mate X7 runs HarmonyOS 6 out of the box in China, and also includes satellite connectivity features.
