Huawei’s newest foldable smartphone, the Mate X7, debuts with several key improvements over its predecessor. These include upgraded IP58 and IP59 ingress protection ratings, the powerful Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, an enhanced telephoto camera, and a slightly larger battery.

Huawei Mate X7 Overview

Building on the slim and lightweight design of the Mate X6, Huawei has refined the Mate X7’s dimensions to 9.5mm when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded. Weighing 235 grams, it is 4 grams lighter than the previous model, while maintaining a durable aluminum frame.

The updated IP58 and IP59 ratings ensure the Mate X7 is protected against dust and resistant to water splashes as well as close-range high-pressure water jets.

Display Features

The Mate X7 offers slightly larger screens, featuring a 6.49-inch cover display with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio, and an 8-inch main screen with an 8:7.3 ratio. Both panels utilize LTPO OLED technology, support variable refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, and offer 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for improved eye comfort.

Camera Specifications

The device retains the 50MP main camera from last year, equipped with an RYYB sensor, a 10-step physical variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, and optical image stabilization. The updated telephoto camera now uses a 50MP sensor with a wider f/2.2 aperture and provides 3.5x optical zoom. Additionally, there is a 40MP ultra-wide camera. For selfies, two 8MP front cameras are provided—one on the cover screen and another on the inner screen.

Performance and Battery

The Mate X7 is powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, also found in the newly released Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max. Although detailed specifications are limited, the SoC reportedly features a nine-core ARMv8 CPU architecture with a prime core at 2.75GHz, four performance cores at 2.27GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.72GHz. The device is equipped with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and supports up to 1TB of storage.

The foldable incorporates a dual-cell silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery with a total capacity of 5,600mAh, supporting 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It runs on HarmonyOS 6 out of the box in China and includes satellite connectivity capabilities.
