Despite Strong Interest in the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung Faces Significant Challenges Ahead

Source: Date:
Recent preliminary results from a PhoneArena poll conducted a few weeks ago reveal surprising enthusiasm for Samsung's first-ever triple-folding smartphone. However, despite this optimistic initial response, Samsung has several hurdles to overcome before the Galaxy Z TriFold can translate buzz into solid sales.

Major Obstacles Standing in the Galaxy Z TriFold’s Way

The naming of the device might feel underwhelming to some — currently reportedly finalized and set as "Galaxy Z TriFold" — but that's hardly the biggest concern. The primary deterrent comes down to the rumored exorbitant price tag, rumored to be in the $3,000 range for markets like South Korea.

Would you consider buying the Galaxy Z TriFold?

Whether the final price lands closer to $2,000 or remains near $3,000, the Galaxy Z TriFold will still be significantly pricier than Samsung's more established foldable models like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which already challenges many buyers’ budgets.
Another critical factor limiting the device’s potential is Samsung’s apparent focus on select markets — primarily China, Singapore, and the UAE — with limited availability expected even in these regions. This means consumers in key markets such as the United States and Europe may struggle to find official retail channels to purchase the TriFold.

Unfortunately, even if you're willing to invest over two thousand dollars in an innovative foldable device, there is a real chance you may not be able to order the Galaxy Z TriFold officially anytime soon, especially if you live outside of its targeted markets.

Is It Too Late for Samsung to Make an Impact?

While more than 40% of poll respondents indicated a "probably" to buying the Galaxy Z TriFold at $3,000, and only about 17% dismissed it outright, Samsung is likely aware this interest may be short-lived.
With first-generation TriFold units expected to be limited to around 20,000 to 30,000 worldwide, Samsung is banking on this curiosity and excitement translating to future models. However, a follow-up device is unlikely before a year or more from now — possibly coinciding with Apple’s launch of its own foldable iPhone.

Although the iPhone Fold is not expected to match the Galaxy Z TriFold's versatility, its arrival on the scene will undoubtedly siphon significant mainstream media and consumer attention away from Samsung’s device.

Samsung’s Focus Should Remain on the Galaxy Z Fold 8

Turning to a newer PhoneArena poll conducted just days ago, 44% of over 200 respondents believe Apple’s iPhone Fold could outsell the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, while nearly 40% maintain Samsung’s lead is too strong to overcome quickly.

Do you think the iPhone Fold will outsell the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

Yes, no matter how good the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is
43.4%
Yes, but only if the iPhone Fold is better
13.21%
No, Samsung is too far ahead already
40.38%
No, both devices will flop
3.02%
This is encouraging news for Samsung, especially given the strong performance of this year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 models.
While a sequel to the Galaxy Z TriFold remains a possibility, Samsung should prioritize the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and more affordable FE variants to maintain dominance against Apple’s growing threat in the foldable market.
