European customers can now order the all-new, fully electric Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake. This sleek wagon combines dynamic styling, impressive range, and cutting-edge technology, making it an attractive choice for families, active lifestyles, or anyone seeking extra space without sacrificing elegance—although its premium pricing may give some pause.
Mercedes-Benz offers two powerful variants, both equipped with an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery. The base CLA 250+ Shooting Brake with EQ technology features rear-wheel drive and delivers 200 kW of power. It impresses with an estimated range of up to 477 miles on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. In Germany, this model starts at $66,888 with private lease options available at $474 per month.

The top-tier CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake with EQ technology adds a second motor for all-wheel drive, increasing output to 260 kW and torque to 380 lb-ft. Starting at $72,226, it offers an excellent range of up to 454 miles. Both models utilize an advanced 800V electrical architecture, enabling rapid DC charging at rates up to 320 kW—allowing drivers to gain up to 196 miles of range in just 10 minutes at compatible stations. Our real-world test of the sedan CLA model offers additional insights here.
The Shooting Brake’s distinctive body style features an extended roofline that enhances practicality without compromising aesthetics. The sporty design includes characteristic "power domes" on the hood and a sleek, flat rear profile. Inside, the versatile rear seats fold in a 40:20:40 split, expanding cargo space to a substantial 45.6 ft³.

Loading is made easy with the standard electric EASY-PACK tailgate. Additional standard features include roof rails and a towing capacity of up to 3,968 lb on the all-wheel-drive variant. A front trunk (frunk) offers an extra 3.57 ft³ of storage, ideal for charging cables. The expansive fixed glass roof enhances cabin spaciousness and incorporates a high-tech coating to regulate interior temperature throughout the seasons.
The driver’s experience centers on Mercedes’s advanced MB.OS system, which transforms the vehicle into a connected smart device with cloud-based over-the-air updates. The MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by Microsoft and Google AI technologies, offers intuitive voice control designed to feel conversational and natural.

Passengers benefit from an optional 14-inch entertainment screen with personalized media options, including streaming platforms such as Disney+ and cloud gaming via Boosteroid. The navigation system integrates Google Maps data with Mercedes-Benz Electric Intelligence technology to optimize routing and battery prep for fast charging.
Responding to customer feedback, Mercedes-Benz redesigned the steering wheel to reinstate physical controls like rocker switches for cruise control and a rotary volume dial. Capacitive touch panels have been improved with enhanced tactile feedback, blending modern digital and traditional inputs seamlessly.

European models come standard with DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control. Buyers can upgrade to the MB.DRIVE ASSIST package, offering enhanced SAE Level 2 driver assistance including steering support and a new Lane Change Assist feature that facilitates lane changes via a single turn signal activation.
The CLA Shooting Brake’s combination of premium design, exceptional electric range, and advanced, user-friendly technology positions it strongly in the luxury electric wagon segment. Mercedes hopes the strong demand for the CLA sedan will translate to popularity for this more practical and spacious variant, which offers greater cargo capacity and higher towing capabilities suitable for daily use and long-distance travel.

The Shooting Brake is a welcome addition to Mercedes’ electric lineup. However, its pricing remains at the premium end of the market. German prices start at $66,888, while UK models, especially the AMG Line 350+ with a modest $1,170 400V charging upgrade, can reach up to $101,207, a considerable sum for a medium-sized electric vehicle despite its capabilities.
