At its latest event in China, Huawei introduced several new devices alongside the Mate 80 series and Mate X7 foldable. Among the highlights were the MatePad Edge, a versatile 2-in-1 tablet running HarmonyOS 5 with full desktop app support, and the Extraordinary Master Edition of the MateBook Fold laptop.

The MatePad Edge takes inspiration from Microsoft’s Surface line, designed to replace your laptop with a highly portable tablet. It features a 14.2-inch OLED display housed within a slim, unibody aluminum chassis that measures just 6.85 mm thick and weighs 789 grams. The device includes a built-in hinge adjustable up to 175 degrees, allowing for flexible viewing angles.

The MatePad Edge is powered by either the Kirin X90 or Kirin X90A chipsets and can be configured with 16GB to 32GB of RAM and 256GB to 2TB of storage. Huawei claims that the latest chipset delivers performance comparable to Apple’s M5 chip, boasting a 3.8x improvement over the previous Kirin T92 SoC. The tablet includes optional liquid cooling and dual vapor chambers to effectively manage heat.

The 14.2-inch OLED touchscreen offers a resolution of 3120 × 2080 pixels with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It supports peak brightness up to 1,000 nits and stylus input via the Huawei M-Pencil Pro. Audio is delivered through a six-speaker setup, complemented by four microphones for enhanced voice capture.

Optional liquid cooling and dual vapor chambers help maintain optimal temperatures.

An optional keyboard accessory is available, featuring a chicklet-style layout with 1.8mm key travel and a pressure-sensitive touchpad. The rear camera system includes a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, while the front camera boasts a 32MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

The MatePad Edge is powered by a 12,900 mAh battery supporting 140W fast charging. Connectivity options include a single USB 3.1 Gen 1 port.

Color options include Space Gray and Bright Moon Silver. Pricing starts at CNY 5,999 ($844) for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage variant and goes up to CNY 12,999 ($1,830) for the top-tier 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD model.

The MateBook Fold Extraordinary Master Edition is offered in black and red finishes and features 32GB of RAM with a 2TB SSD. It retains the core specifications of the standard MateBook Fold and is priced at CNY 26,999 ($3,800).
