WhatsApp is updating its terms of service to prohibit the use of third-party AI chatbots within the app, effective January 15, 2026. This change means users will no longer be able to access non-Meta AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Copilot on the platform after this date.
OpenAI announced its exit from WhatsApp last month, and Microsoft confirmed earlier this week that Copilot will also be removed from the app. However, there is a limited exception for businesses using AI chatbots for customer service, which will still be permitted.
WhatsApp users who are currently using ChatGPT will have the option to migrate their chat history, whereas Copilot users will not have this capability.
