Meta Introduces a Smart Glasses Trade-In Program with Some Limitations

Source: Date:

Earlier this year, Meta launched the second generation of its Ray-Ban smart glasses alongside select Oakley models and the Meta Ray-Ban Display. Now, Meta is piloting a trade-in program that offers discounts toward new wearable purchases, although with some notable exclusions.

Meta's New Trade-In Program for Smart Glasses

Starting November 14 and running through December 31, Meta is offering up to $113 in trade-in discounts for various smart glasses. The discount applies to most available Meta models but excludes the Meta Ray-Ban Display, limited edition, and refurbished units. Eligible devices for trade-in include:

  • Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1
  • Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2
  • Oakley Meta Vanguard
  • Oakley Meta HSTN

Eligibility and Restrictions

While the trade-in program does accept several smart glasses models, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is notably excluded from the offer. Additionally, limited edition and refurbished devices cannot be used to qualify for trade-in discounts. Users have reported needing to try multiple browsers before accessing the trade-in page.

The Value Proposition

This trade-in initiative could make upgrading to newer Meta smart glasses more affordable for some users. Coupled with current deals such as Mint Mobile’s $15/month unlimited plans, which reduce yearly costs by 50%, consumers exploring wearable tech might find these offers enticing.
