Apple is set to enhance the photography experience on its most affordable upcoming iPhone model. According to renowned analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17e will receive a significant camera upgrade, matching the 18MP front-facing selfie camera found across the iPhone 17 series.
This advancement marks a rare and notable move by Apple, as the company typically reserves such improvements for its higher-tier models before trickling them down the lineup. The introduction of the improved selfie camera with the iPhone 17 range has evidently convinced Apple to bring this upgrade to its budget-friendly iPhone 17e as well.
The new front camera employs an innovative square sensor design that allows users to effortlessly capture selfies in either vertical or horizontal orientation without having to rotate the phone. Jeff Pu anticipates that the iPhone 17e will launch around “mid-1Q26,” pointing to an expected release in February 2026.
Besides the camera upgrade, the iPhone 17e will also be powered by the A19 chip, the same processor used in the standard iPhone 17, delivering improved performance compared to its predecessor.
