OnePlus 15 Overheating Concerns: What Buyers Should Know

Source: Date:
OnePlus 15 has recently attracted attention, this time due to concerns over overheating rather than its impressive performance. As a flagship phone equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, heat generation during intense usage is expected, but some users report the device reaching uncomfortable temperatures.

Powerful Performance Meets Thermal Challenges

The OnePlus 15, launched recently, boasts the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, known for its excellent processing power. Our Geekbench 6 tests revealed a single-core score of 3,493—just under the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max—and a leading multi-core score of 10,692, outperforming competitors including the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
High-end chipsets naturally generate heat during prolonged or heavy use, which is why smartphones include advanced cooling systems. However, several users have raised concerns online suggesting the OnePlus 15's cooling system may be falling short in controlling excessive heat build-up.

For example, user Hardik reported extreme heating during the demanding 3DMark Extreme Stress Test, which evaluates GPU stability and thermal throttling. While temperature rises are expected during such tests, the degree of heating appeared unusually high to some users.
Various reports note the device's temperature hitting as high as 52.7°C under extended heavy load. However, findings vary greatly depending on the specific usage conditions, making it difficult to ascertain if overheating is a consistent issue across all OnePlus 15 devices.
The OnePlus 15 is designed with a large vapor chamber and Glacier Supercritical Aerogel technology aimed to keep the device cooler for longer periods. Despite these innovations, some users affected by the overheating conclude that the cooling system may not be as effective as expected.
In our testing, however, we did not experience significant throttling or overheating. This suggests that the problem may be isolated to specific units or tied to software optimization, which OnePlus could address with future updates.

A Challenge for OnePlus to Solve

OnePlus 15
The OnePlus 13 made a strong impression with features like its large 6000mAh battery, making it hugely popular in Western markets. The OnePlus 15 has equally high expectations.
We believe that the overheating concerns may stem from software tuning challenges rather than hardware faults. As one of the first phones to implement the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, the device should benefit from future software updates that optimize performance and thermal management. For now, it seems reasonable to allow some time for these updates before drawing conclusions about hardware issues.
